Is MC-11 worth buying?
Apr 28, 2019
iii
I have been watching MC-11. The price has dropped once more to $149. Is it worth getting?
I currently accept no Catechism lens. However, I am considering getting a macro lens. Maybe a Canon version with the MC-xi instead of the 90mm Sony?
I was shopping for a long lens for landscape and got the seventy-300 Atomic number 26. I was seriously because Catechism 70-200 F4 L with this adapter. Well ... that ship has sailed.
There's some Catechism mountain prime lenses (Canon and Sigma) that are quite expert and affordable.

need a 3rd-gen body for the best results with adapted glass.
mc-11 is a must-take for ef-mount sigma drinking glass, where it can work to it'southward fullest potential, depending on which lens is attached.
at $149, it's a no-brainer for general ef-mount lens use, but ymmv on frame rate and af performance, depending on which lens is attached, to which body.

Totally worthy, specially in 3rd gen bodies unless you lot're shooting video and want af in not-sigma lenses.

I currently take no Catechism lens. Even so, I am considering getting a macro lens. Perhaps a Catechism version with the MC-11 instead of the 90mm Sony?
I was shopping for a long lens for landscape and got the 70-300 Fe. I was seriously considering Canon 70-200 F4 L with this adapter. Well ... that ship has sailed.
There's some Canon mount prime lenses (Canon and Sigma) that are quite skilful and affordable.
Absolutely. I would buy the MC-eleven and no other adapters, equally in no-A-mountain adapters. The problem with a-mount lenses is that few accept on-board focus motors. And then you're left with the LAEA4 and focus calibrations - that send has sailed. I do accept the Sony 70-400 g2 a-mount lens, and its fantabulous. Bought at a time when there was no Sony 100-400.
Catechism, on the other mitt, has thousands of new and used primes and zooms out there. They can be bought and sold easily/and L-glass prices are quite reasonable.
I've tried these Catechism lenses with my A7rii: EF 85, 100, 200 and the 135. They were all excellent but the only 2 lenses that are ever in my purse/on the camera, these days are the Tamron 28-75 f2.eight and the Canon 135 f2.

I take no intention of getting rid of mine. Since at that place are however gaps in Sony FE and a few values in Canon EF information technology makes sense for SOME people
I currently have no Canon lens. However, I am considering getting a macro lens.
Well and here is your conundrum. That $150 takes abroad from having native. FOR ME I would prefer native 98% of the time. So if the but lens you desire is mid range macro that coin goes against the cost savings. Then again if you convert several lenses that $150 is piddling
Maybe a Canon version with the MC-11 instead of the 90mm Sony?
Which i? This lens also goes on sale occasionally.
I was shopping for a long lens for mural and got the lxx-300 Iron. I was seriously considering Canon 70-200 F4 L with this adapter. Well ... that transport has sailed.
Part of the same conversation. The IS Catechism version isn't a lot cheaper. Then again if you could get by with the not IS that is some meaning savings if it works for yous.
There's some Canon mount prime lenses (Canon and Sigma) that are quite good and affordable.
Yeah in that location are BUT. Now that virtually of the art line is in Iron and at that place are some less wxpensive options out there adapted isn't equally attractive as it used to be. This is also despite it working better than ever.
If it makes sense to you then go for it. You never know. With unique lenses similar tilt shifts, exotics, supertelephotos there are several skillful arguments for getting an adapter. Simply if you really want the best experience stay native
Good luck

For $149, yeah. That's how much I got mine for. Totally worth it. But I take EF glass though. Still, the MC-eleven will allow you to use lenses like Sigma xviii-35/1.8 and Sigma fifty-100/ane.8 (EF mountain), which many Sony users are using on Sony E-mountain bodies. These are fantastic lenses, they get rave reviews, and it's cracking to be able to employ them on Sony bodies with the MC-xi adapter. I'grand seriously thinking of getting the 50-100/ane.viii for my Sony. These lenses are big and heavy, but hey they are f/ane.8 zooms! I think the weight and size would be worth it for the convenience of being able to supersede multiple fast primes with just the l-100/1.8.

I love MC-11 +50L on A9. I take no plan to replace them with Sony 50mm f1.4.
Simply dont wait it to piece of work as good every bit native. Everything works fine ( eye af, face detection, AF-C, AF-Southward) in the center of the frame. The AF volition hunt and non lock on on the edges of the frame. No AF for VDO.
I wouldnt buy adaptor if I didnt already take Canon glasses.

The 35/2 is a gem. Somewhat aural AF and not proficient AF in low lite or in the corners but otherwise practiced and optically very appealing.

I don't see any focus distance data in the EXIF of MC-11 adapted Catechism lenses. That means no x- and y-axis stabilization for macro. Metabones claims to support this. Possibly the Canon lenses I own don't have focus distance encoders. It sounds like Canon may have added focus distance relatively recently. Minolta added it dorsum in 2000 aslope SSM.
A-mountain D lenses do supply focus distance to the camera when used with the Sony adapters. The Minolta/Sony A-mount macros lenses also accept Lens Compensation in A7 cameras.
The Atomic number 26 90mm F2.8 G OSS is one of the highest rated lenses.
